Biography

Dr. Luyang Sun is a Professor at the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he serves as Deputy Director of the Single-Cell Center and leads the Bioinformatics Group.

His research integrates single-cell Ramanomics with sequencing-based omics to investigate how label-free phenotypic signals reflect cellular functional states. His lab develops computational frameworks linking single-cell phenotypes to molecular regulatory networks. To address challenges in quality control, feature representation, and multi-dimensional interpretation of high-throughput Raman data, his group has built automated spectral analysis pipelines and developed deep learning tools including RamEx and VADER. These methods, combined with genomic and transcriptomic data, enable robust characterization of single-cell functional states. His approaches have been applied across diverse biological contexts, including unsupervised classification of marine microorganisms, rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing, prediction of tumor metastatic potential, teleost genome assembly, and molecular analysis of aging.
